FDA: Normal Doses of Dalfampridine Pose Seizure Risk
The FDA has issued a warning that the multiple sclerosis drug dalfampridine (trade name: AMPYRA) can cause seizures at normal dosages. The medication, which the FDA approved in 2010 to improve ability of MSA patients to walk, is processed through the kidneys so those with kidney deficiencies may be at special risk for seizures. Common age-related decreases in kidney function may make this drug more hazardous for those over 50 years old.
