Cedar Rapids Rollover Crash Sends 2 to the Hospital and 1 to Jail

On Friday, October 7, 2011, a rollover accident in Cedar Rapids occurred on Williams Boulevard S.W. Although this crash was a one-vehicle accident, it sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police indicated that the rollover crash occurred around 9:00 a.m. Friday morning, when the vehicle traveled onto the grassy median. The car proceeded to flip over multiple times and came to a rest in the opposite lane of traffic.

During the rollover, Haliegh Hayes, the 19-year-old driver of the car, was thrown out of the vehicle and trapped underneath the car. Witnesses of the crash came to the rescue and rolled the car off of her to free her.

Hayes was transported to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids for medical treatment. Trenton McCleary, 25, of Cedar Rapids, a male occupant in the vehicle, was injured and taken to Mercy Medical Center as well.

Police indicated that neither Hayes nor McCleary were wearing their seatbelts during this crash.

Hayes sustained life-threatening head injuries, and witnesses to the accident said she was bleeding out of her head. Hayes and McCleary were released a few days later.

Once police found McCleary, they escorted him again to St. Luke's Hospital for further medical evaluation and then took him to Linn County Jail on paraphernalia charges.

The Law Offices of Brady Preston Gronlund would like to wish both people injured in this Cedar Rapids crash a full recovery.
