Cardiac Arrest Can Occur from Darvocet – a Prescription Painkiller
On Friday, November 19, 2010, Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals recalled two of its brand name drugs, Darvocet and Darvon, versions of propoxyphene. The drug recall was brought on by the FDA, after they concluded that the serious cardiac side effects overshadow the painkillers' treatment efficacy.
Darvocet or Darvon, a prescription pain reliever, was recalled due to a risk of heart problems in patients taking the medicine. There have been claims from people who have taken this medicine and have experienced irregular heartbeats, rhythm abnormalities and even cardiac arrest. In actuality, the FDA received two previous requests dating back to 1978 requesting a recall of this drug. They decided at that time that the drug's pain relief benefits outweighed the cardiac effects, until now.
Darvocet or Darvon is known to have the pain medication propoxyphene which is now linked to heart rhythm abnormalities. The painkiller propoxyphene was promptly recalled, as there is evidence that the drug can change the electrical activity of the heart. This drug put people at risk for serious heart rhythm abnormalities which could lead to heart attacks and even death.
Even when this drug is taken properly in the correct dosage, it can still lead to fatal heart concerns. People have experienced heart attacks, irregular heartbeats and even require the use of a pacemaker while taking Darvocet. If you have suffered from any of these above mentioned issues while you were taking this drug, contact a product liability attorney to find out if you can recover financial compensation for your injuries and to find out your consumer rights.
In addition, if you have lost a family member in Iowa due to sudden a heart attack and death and you know your relative was taking Darvon, contact a Cedar Rapids product liability lawyer. You may be able to bring a lawsuit against the company, or you may be able to join the class action lawsuit.
The Darvocet class action lawsuit is for people who suffered cardiac problems due to propoxyphene, and would like to be compensated for the damages they have suffered.
